Dysart Woods survey July 17 1999 showing conclusively that old growth forest extends far south of the boundaries submitted by Ohio University

The following survey was conducted July 17 at Dysart Woods by Chad Kister, Alicia Cleveland and Steve Routhwaite. The tree sample shown in the numbers above was taken as a random sample, and indicates that old growth forest extends all the way to the south border of Dysart Woods.

1) Red Oak 3.37 feet in diameter

2) Tulip Poplar 2.18 feet in diameter at breast height

3) Sugar Maple 2.25 feet in diameter at breast height

4) Sugar Maple 2.57 feet in diameter at breast height, 50 feet to the first branch

5) Tulip Poplar 2.58 feet in diameter at breast height

6) Red Oak 4.934 feet in diameter at breast height, 140 feet high

7) Red Oak 3.06 feet in diameter at breast height

8) Red Oak 5.54 feet in diameter at breast height

9) Red Oak 3.19 feet in diameter at breast height

10) Tulip Poplar 2.724 feet in diameter at breast height

The ODMR must extend the boundaries to include all of the trees listed above and more. Clearly the ODMR is acting under incomplete information, and must delay any decisions on permit D-0360-9 until after all of them can be reviewed. Further, the ODMR must wait until the completion of the Lands Unsuitable Petition appeals as they directly affect the permit area, and the LUP was filed ahead of -9, making it take precedence under Ohio law.
